Time for Change

"Because things are the way they are, they will not stay the way they are."
~ Bertolt Brecht

It has been a rough first week for me. Classes had resumed last Tuesday so I would be taking a little rest from writing.

I expect that we will have a hectic schedule, since our classes are now from 7 o'clock in the morning until 7 o'clock in the evening, as it was in the first semester.

I am also looking forward to piles of homework, but thankfully, that was not the case last week.

Well, at least I have time to recuperate and revert to my "normal" day-to-day self. Believe me, this last quarter in school would not be a stroll in the park. This is the period that we dread the most but when we get through it, it will be euphoric.

Anyways, before that, we would have to undergo the most excruciatingly difficult time. Since we are nearing the end of the year, a lot of requirements are needed in each subject and we have to finish all of them or we will be saying sayonara.

Basically, a lot of changes have happened. It's only the start of the year. But no matter how big or how small these changes are, I believe they will have a great impact in our lives.

We may not see it right now, we may not realize it months from now, heck, we may not even know that our lives changed, but there is a purpose for these changes and God be willing that they are for a better tomorrow. I am sure though that things are bound to happen; many events, good and bad, are surely going to occur.

So, my personal appeal to everyone is that we should start the change in ourselves first, before we can change others. I admit, change is one of the hardest things to do. If you have developed the habit of something, it is difficult to change that habit, let alone remove it entirely from your system. But, little by little, step by step, we should move to change so that our lives will become better.

Remember, that in this world, we have no control, no possession over anything, and all things, even our own desires and thoughts, are subject to change. Also, remember that the One who holds our life is the One who changes it. God knows why we have to change and what has to change. All we can hope for is the best and that He will give us the best.

No matter how deep habits or vices are rooted in one's system, God can change them. No one in their own strength can change themselves, keep that in mind. Because if you try to change yourself, there is a large chance that you will fail.

Yes, you may try to stop the habit of smoking or drinking, but sooner or later, you will find yourself drawn back to doing that habit. You cannot permanently change yourself, only God has the power to do that. I know this because I myself have my own bad habits.

Being a part of this generation where new technologies are being developed every day, I had my own run-ins with gadgets and computers. I got addicted with computer games. And addiction is something that you do not want to dabble with, because when it entangles you, you would not be able to escape easily.

It will seep through you and hold on to you very tightly. You will keep running towards it. And if you are inconsistent in your faith, you will not be able to overcome your problems and your addictions. So, when you encounter things that can destroy you, you must stay away from it before you get drawn to it.

Change is good; it brings you to newer perspectives. When you are changed by God, you are truly changed. He may use "representatives" or "vessels" or simply other people to help you towards that. You just have to be sensitive to it. It's already 2012.

We cannot go back in time. We cannot change our past. But, hear this, we can change our present, so that we can have a better future, not only for ourselves but for the next generation as well.

So, let us not sit idly by and see the different crises that are happening in the world, we should act now. Do not wait for someone else to do it for you, if you are able and present, you should do it. Remember, no matter how big or how small a change is, it is very significant in the lives of many people.

Who knows? You might be able to save someone by simply talking to that person and giving him advice in life and consoling him.

I remember someone saying that if you have more than enough, if you are bountiful of something, give it to those in need. Share your blessings to those who are deserving, those who will be able to enrich it. You may be sharing your blessings but if the people you share it with are using it in the wrong ways, then nothing will come out from it. Sow your seed in good soil, and you will reap the harvest.
