From The Sky Into My Heart

I don't know what it is about airplanes
But whenever I look up at the sky and see one
It makes me giddy and touches a soft spot in my heart
As if I am transported back to a time
When the world was full of wonder and I can't wait
To go out and explore and see many different things

Whenever I see an airplane, flashes of adventure
Of places that I can only imagine flood my mind
I become like a child once more
Who looks up at the sky and bursts out in joy
Then I feel a sense of longing
To go back into that time when everything was new

I don't know what it is about airplanes
Imagining what it feels like to soar up in the sky
To be free to go wherever you please
It takes me back into the past and into tomorrow
And I become like a child once more
Waving off, imagining where it has been and where it will go

To give a bit of a backstory for this poem, I have been thinking of writing a poem about airplanes for quite some time because I feel a sense of nostalgia whenever I see one and it also brings a feeling of tranquility and freedom at the same time. And I think the reason why it makes me nostalgic is that it reminds me of a scene from Toy Story 2 where the toys get off on the airplane to rescue Woody and Buzz and it brings to mind all the sentiments that the movie was trying to convey.

It also opens up a whole world of possibilities to go to different places and experience different cultures. It reminds me of the times I went abroad and the memories that I treasured from those experiences. And I am also reminded of movies that depicted heartwarming scenes in the airport which tugged at your heartstrings or about scenes where you see people flying in the air and just seeing a majestic view and being filled with awe and amazement at what they experience.

So I wanted to put those feelings into words and express them from my heart and that's why I wrote this poem. It may not mean as much for a lot of people but it has such sentimental value for me, I don't know why, it just does. And I don't know why but I feel like a child again whenever I see one, wanting to also soar high in the sky and go to some beautiful places. It's kind of the same feeling that you might get from looking at the sunset or the starry night sky - there are simply no words that would describe the entirety of it, you can only try to appreciate it as you watch it.
