Moments that Made Me Cry in Naruto: Part 2

In the first part, I focused solely on Itachi because I felt that he probably had one of the worst fates throughout the story. But he handled it with courage and a lot of heart. So here are some other moments that made me cry in Naruto.

Naruto and Gaara

Naruto’s relationship with Gaara is probably second only to Naruto’s relationship with Sasuke. There’s a deep bond that connects the two, both being Jinchuuriki until Shukaku was extracted from Gaara. By the way, Gaara is my other favorite character.

They understood each other’s pain and loneliness as they were both considered outcasts and monsters by their fellow villagers because of the power that they wielded.

What the people around them didn’t understand was that they had feelings too. They were not just weapons of destruction that can be used for political gain. But they were human beings who have the same need for affection, acceptance, and love.

Because of the way they were treated, they questioned whether there was even a reason for their existence. Since they felt nobody needed them, life became difficult to bear. Naruto resorted to becoming a nuisance to the village by pulling pranks so that he could get their attention and acknowledge him. He wanted them to think that he’s not just the fox kid or the monster living inside him.

Things changed for Naruto when Iruka was the first person to acknowledge him as a person who needs love, acceptance, and affection just like anybody else. Then other people started to warm up to him and he found himself surrounded by friends.

But Gaara had it tougher than Naruto. For most of his life, people just feared him. His own father, the Kazekage, tried to assassinate him six times and even ordered Yashamaru, Gaara’s uncle and the only person who truly showed him compassion and love, to kill him.

That sent Gaara into a downward spiral. It screwed him up a lot. From then on, Gaara only found meaning to his existence by killing other people. He was able to feel alive by taking the lives of others. That was until Gaara met Naruto.

The story is Sand conspired with the Sound to destroy Konoha during the Chuunin exams. They planned to unleash Gaara’s Shukaku and let it go on a rampage.

However, at that time, Sasuke tried to stop Gaara but he was overpowered. Gaara then held Sakura hostage. Then, Naruto came in the scene and fought against Gaara. Gaara became confused by Naruto’s actions and why he fought to protect others. Naruto told him that it was because they are his friends.

The battle ensues and Naruto was able to subdue Gaara. When they were both beaten up and lying on the ground, Naruto inched his way to Gaara. Naruto told him how he understood the pain of being alone that Gaara felt.

He lived in the same hell of loneliness that Gaara was trapped in. But he explained that there were people who saved him from that hell and they were important to him. So that’s why no matter what, he would protect those he loved even if he had to kill Gaara.

That struck Gaara, like he was having an epiphany. He started to understand what Yashamaru told him about love. Love, he said, is the spirit devoting yourself to someone important and close to you. It is expressed by caring for and protecting that person. They stopped fighting. From that moment, Gaara embarked on his journey to try and understand and share in others’ pain, joy, and suffering.

Because they shared the same desire to feel and be accepted by those around them, these two became closer and led the way for others to understand what the Jinchuuriki felt.

Gaara considers Naruto his first friend. From the time they met, Gaara wanted to have the same outlook that Naruto had. He wanted to be acknowledged by others as well and become a person who is needed by them.

These two also had feel good BFF vibes and a deep brotherly, friendly affection for each other that makes me feel giddy. Again, this was second only to Naruto and Sasuke’s.

Later on, Gaara became the Kazekage. He would also be kidnapped by the Akatsuki and Naruto would not hesitate to go and rescue him. Gaara died but he was revived by Chiyo.

Gaara would also become the commander of the Allied Shinobi Forces and he delivered a very heartfelt and compelling speech about what the war meant for him. He was fighting because of his desire to protect his friend, Naruto.

Naruto and Sasuke

“No way can a guy, who can’t even save one friend, become the Hokage.” From the time, Sasuke left Konoha to train with Orochimaru, much of the story’s focus centered on Naruto’s desire to bring Sasuke back. Even during the Akatsuki arcs, Pain’s invasion, until the Fourth Great Shinobi War, Naruto always had Sasuke on his mind.

Naruto and Sasuke are the central characters of the series. They have had a love-hate relationship from the start, when they were kids. Ultimately, this culminated in an intense life and death battle at the Final Valley much like their predecessors.

Their relationship is one of deep brotherly affection as much as it is a friendly rivalry. They both understood each other’s loneliness. They were kindred spirits in solitude.

It all probably started after Sasuke lost all his relatives when Itachi was given the mission to massacre his entire clan except Sasuke. Though Naruto always thought that Sasuke had it all, it was at that moment when Naruto felt that he was no longer alone.

In the depths of his depression, Sasuke found a place in Team 7. And his rivalry with Naruto reminded him of what it was like to have a brother. Doing missions and spending time with Team 7 brought back the feelings of being in a family for Sasuke.

As I mentioned, Naruto always thought that Sasuke was the cool kid and wanted to be like him. After he lost his family, Naruto wanted to approach him many times but couldn’t. Instead he made Sasuke his rival.

In their first battle at Final Valley, Sasuke wanted to sever his ties with Naruto. He wanted to walk on his path alone. But Naruto didn’t want Sasuke to plunge into that. He tried to bring him back but couldn’t.

However, Naruto never gave up. He trained hard and became stronger so that he could bring Sasuke back. Jiraiya told him that the place where someone still thinks of you is what you call home. So Naruto kept thinking about Sasuke and never let go of him.

These two never admitted to each other the deep thoughts and feelings that connected them, that is until their death match right after the war. For the most part, they expressed what they felt through fighting or the clashing of fists.

It was during that death match when they saw what was inside each other, something that their predecessors Hashirama and Madara were not able to do.

Sasuke was able to peer into Naruto’s memories, thoughts, and feelings. How he endured many difficulties to become stronger so that he can reach his goal of becoming Hokage. He saw the lengths Naruto went through to chase him and bring him back.

They always described their rivalry as trying to catch up with one another. Naruto wants Sasuke to acknowledge him but Sasuke wanting to become strong so that he can kill Itachi, refused to acknowledge Naruto because he feels that if he did, he would be admitting that he has made no progress and hasn’t become stronger.

On the other hand, Sasuke always thought that he couldn’t catch up to Naruto at the pace he was progressing. But more than that, he was actually jealous because Naruto possessed a strength that he didn’t. He was able to push through his loneliness and become stronger.

These two have forged a bond that no words can explain or describe. It is a connection that goes deep into their thoughts and feelings. The aftermath of their battle was a very touching moment for me. It was in that moment when they finally recognized each other not just as rivals but as friends and brothers.

When they were able to look into each other’s thoughts and feelings, there was no need for them to say anything. I think theirs is true friendship, one that perseveres.

Conclusion

As you can see, these are just a few moments that touched my heart and made me cry while I was watching Naruto. Most of them tackled subjects such as sacrifice, redemption, loneliness, solitude, acceptance, love and affection, and bonds.

I feel very strongly about all of these subjects and I think that’s why they spoke to me. There are many other moments that made me cry in Naruto but those will be for another time.
