The Facets of Love
Love may be an outburst of emotion or a wonderful subtlety.
Something that we feel in the pit of our stomachs and in our hearts for the people whom we share affection and mutual interest with.
Love may also be a concept. A thought, idea, belief or value that we passionately fight for until our dying breath.
Every fiber of our body lives for its fulfillment and we, in turn, are motivated to act in behalf of it and encouraged by it even if the world around us thinks we are crazy doing so.
Normally, these are some ways in which we describe what love is based on our own experiences. But God's Word takes 'love' into different accounts.
"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails..." 1 Corinthians 13:4-8
In the passage of Scripture above, Paul speaks about love as the greatest gift that God has given to man. He illustrates what true and genuine love is by listing several characteristics of God's love, which is perfect, toward man.
Now, we have an idea of what love really is from the perspective of God and His love for us. True and perfect love can only come from God because the Word also tells us that God Himself is love and God overflows in love.
"Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love." 1 John 4:7-8
The greatest act of love that God showed us was when He gave up Jesus Christ, His one and only Son, to die for the sins of man so that we might live through Him and so we can be reconciled with the Father.
No matter how hard we try, there is no other way to God the Father except through Jesus for it is only through His blood that we can be cleansed of our sins and through His righteousness that we can enter in the presence of the Holy God.
The reason why some people are unhappy in their relationships is because they neglect that God loves them and has a wonderful plan in their lives which includes even their love life and the person whom they will one day marry and be happy with.
Sometimes we search for love in the wrong places and in the wrong things. We forget that the one true source of love is God and that only He can completely give us what our souls so desire. Only God can love us perfectly and He has designed a wonderful partner whom we can share His love with.
I hope that someday I would meet the one whom God has chosen for me but in the meantime, I am perfectly satisfied with the love that God has for me and so I will also love God with all my heart, mind, soul, and strength and I will abide in His love so that I will remain in Him.
