Sticking to Our Commitments
In my opinion, I think some or most people are somewhat wary and even hesitant of making commitments or promises to others because we humans tend to fail too often in honoring the commitments that we have made.
The words that we give to other people may not be as binding as a legal document but it bears in it an amount of trust that the other person has for you to do what you said you would do.
This is where the phrase "word of honor" stems out from because whenever we give out our word to someone, it is good as done.
In many other aspects in life, the same thing can be expected. When we commit, we must count the costs and determine whether we have the capacity and initiative to persevere until our commitments have been fulfilled.
We must be prepared to endure whatever hardships the road toward the fruition of our commitments would entail and show that we have integrity to respect and reciprocate the trust that others place on us with our actions.
The same thing goes for commitments we make for ourselves. I believe there are still people who make New Year's resolutions.
It is always a good thing to have room for improvement since we are constantly being changed by God and with the effort that we put in and with faith, God, through the changes He makes in us, can direct our paths to the best possible life that we could enjoy on our stay here on earth.
There is nothing wrong with wanting to live a healthy lifestyle and trying out a certain process or system that we would commit ourselves to but we have to keep in mind that there are sacrifices that we have to make in order to carry out the best results.
Sometimes, when we find ourselves between a rock and a hard place, we crumble midway through our commitment but our failures should not stop us from reaching the utmost potential that God has in store for us.
Changing our lifestyle requires a lot of effort and commitment. If we want to get that healthy and fit body or to enhance our capacity to learn and store information or to master a certain skill, we literally have to undergo a major paradigm shift and change our ways.
Changes do not happen overnight which is why we must develop habits that would mold our character and lifestyle. We need to stay firm and be vigilant so that we do not fall to our own cravings.
However, we should not be too hard on ourselves because trying to change something that we have been used to doing all our lives is a tough task to accomplish and it goes on even after we have completed what we wanted to do because we have to maintain that kind of lifestyle.
But that is where the human spirit and tenacity gives us a little boost to keep pressing forward even though we stumble, we are resilient to move on.
The will to go on should also be very evident with the commitments we make with God. But we have nothing to worry because God has promised us that He will never leave us nor forsake us and we can trust in His Word on this as He will truly show His faithfulness for those who believe.
Even though we experience troubles, God always has a reason for everything that happens in our lives and He has the power to turn even the worst circumstances around to benefit us and bring out a certain character from us.
With God, we simply need to trust and put our faith in Him because we know that when He makes promises or commitments to us, He will do it in His perfect timing and for us, that is our commitment to God: to put our faith in Him no matter what happens in our lives - good or bad.
We need to hold steadfast to His love and faithfulness. We need to praise Him despite the struggles we face. We need to humble ourselves even if we are persecuted. We need to persevere and ask God to show us the way and to help us to be like Jesus and with all these, God will lift us up in due time.
Sticking to the commitments we make, whether to others, to ourselves, or to God takes so much courage, strength, and humility. We have to recognize that in order to fulfill these things, we need God.
So, it should be our top priority to keep our commitments to God above all else and never compromise them. Therefore, we must be prudent in the commitments we make with others because they might be opposing to our commitments with God.
We always have the choice to whom we give our word to and to whom we make commitments with. We need to be wise in making these decisions and always ask for the guidance of God because we know He has wonderful plans for us because He loves us and wants the best for us so in everything, we must make Him the top priority.
In making our commitments, we need to count the costs and make sure that we have what it takes to stick with it until the very end because that shows integrity and insurmountable faith with regard to honoring commitments and standing firm through all our endeavors.
