Life of Daily Devotion to God and His Righteousness
The last portion of David's resolution and vows to God ultimately conveys how he will deal with every single day from the rising of the sun to its setting place and how he will deal with those under his care and rule.
He tells us with which kind of people he will be associating with and how he will deal with those who live a life contrary to the ways of God and His righteousness, who stubbornly continue to live steeped in sin.
In Psalm 101:6-8, it says:
"My eyes will be on the faithful in the land, that they may dwell with me; he whose walk is blameless will minister to me.
No one who practices deceit will dwell in my house; no one who speaks falsely will stand in my presence. Every morning I will put to silence all the wicked in the land; I will cut off every evildoer from the city of the Lord."
We see that David places great importance to the connections and relations he develops with other people and how he holds people who live righteous and faithful lives to God in high regard while he despises those living in darkness and deceit.
He further declares that he would put to silence the wicked in the land and cut off every evildoer from the city of the Lord.
Basically, he does not tolerate sin just as God cannot tolerate sin and he wants to be surrounded by people whose ways are straight and true to the Word of God.
He wants to be ministered by people who obey God and are frequently nourished by His Word and filled by the Spirit so that he can dwell in God's presence at all times.
I believe that it is important for us to grow in our personal relationship with God every single day and every moment of our lives because we constantly face struggles and problems in our lives and only God has won the victory for us through His Son Jesus Christ.
We need God daily because it is He who sustains us and provides for every need that we have and without Him, our lives would be meaningless and vain just as Solomon wrote in Ecclesiastes.
It is God who breathes life into our bones and carries us high above the raging torrents of our lives and shines His light upon us when all hope seems to be lost in darkness because He is our light, our hope, our strong refuge, and our salvation.
He delivers us from these problems and sets our feet upon the rock that will never be shaken.
In our lives, we need people who would encourage us and would have our best interest in mind and they truly care for us and want to direct us into the right way.
We need to be careful with whom we mingle with and take advice from because there are great consequences to the decisions that we make and if we haphazardly ask people whom we think we can trust yet have no real concern for your own good then we might find ourselves blindly walking into a pit.
The people that we interact with can also make a difference in our lives but you have to choose well and prudently assess the character of your friends and colleagues because they can either make you or break you.
And in all things, we must always seek God's righteousness above all else. We need to seek His counselling and guidance so that we would truly make the best and wisest decisions for certain situations because only God knows what is best for us.
Even we ourselves do not know what we really need and what is truly best for us but God, who nurtured us and cared for us from the very beginning when we were still swathed and sheltered in our mother's womb.
Moreover, only He knows our purpose in life - one that serves Him best through the use of our talents and gifts in which we can contribute to the lives of other people as well.
I hope that this series of vows that David made in Psalm 101 may be a guide for us to know certain areas of our lives that we need improvement on and to ask God to help us with by surrendering it before Him.
I pray that you will continue to grow and mature in spirit as you walk in the Christian faith and follow the ways of Jesus as He reveals Himself to us through the Bible. God Bless!
